Government procurement site now free
Small businesses can now browse public sector contracts for free after the government removed the subscription fee on its procurement site. The government site www.supply2.gov.uk has been advertising public sector procurement opportunities for the last three years. The site lists available contracts up to the value of £100,000. Up until now, small businesses have only had access to the listings for an annual £180 subscription fee. Business minister Shriti Vadera said they had waived the fee as small businesses are facing mounting pressure as a result of the downturn and new contracts were ‘essential for their return to growth’. Vadera said the free service was an interim step, and the government planned to introduce a single website for all government contracts next year.
